My Top 10 High street Makeup under £10

My top high street Make up items for under £10! You can get most of these items from either Boots or Superdrug here in the UK!
(Prices as at May 2013)

I will probably end up adding to this list! Also, feel free to shout out any others in the comments! :)

Number 1: MUA Palettes

I LOVE all the MUA make up academy eyeshadow palettes and at £4 each you can treat yourself to 1 a week if you wanted! Quenches the make up thirst for sure this one does!

 Number 2:
Sinful nail varnish

Sinful nail varnish comes in a fun range of bright colours! These are great       quality (I tend to need two coats) and they are long lasting! At only £1.99 they are a total bargain and you can often grab them in 3 for 2 deals!

Number 3: Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer

Has to be Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer! This stuff is amazing! This is high coverage, long staying power and has never let me down! I usually stock up on this when there are the 3 for 2 sales! Otherwise, this costs about £4.20.

Number 4: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

Some love, some hate this but I personally love Maybelline Fit Me Foundation! This foundation has a gel-like texture to it and contains no oils or waxes. As a result it is probably best suited to Dry/Normal skin. It gives nice coverage (medium) and gives a healthy glow. If you prep, prime and set this will last most of the day. You can get these for approx £6.

Number 5: Sleek Pout Paint

I recently discovered these in my search for Lime Crime Velvetine dupes Blog post: Sleek Pout Paint are amazing! The tube in quite small but you literally only need half a pea size to cover your lips! They closely simulate OCC lip tars & MAC Lipmix. These cost around £4. My favourite is 'Pin Up'.

Number 6: Max factor 2000 Calorie

There is always one product you will always end up going back to. This one is my old faithful and has been since my school days! Max factor 2000 Calorie mascara is simply amazing! I love the wand and the formula. This is such a good quality mascara, it never crumbles or smudges or gives the 'spider web' effect. Costs vary between £5 - £8 and it is worth every penny!

Number 7: Rimmel Glam'Eyes Liquid Eyeliner

Strong black pigmentation  excellent slim wand, lasts all day (for me at least!)! This product is a staple for most MUAs since it came out! I tend to use this in conjunction with my felt liner just to wing the end.
No need to build up the colour as it is so black.  This one will set you back about £5.

Number 8: W7 Double Act Bronzer Blusher

This Bronzer Blusher is clearly a Benefit Powder box in perfect 10 dupe. Perfect all year round. The bronzer has a lovely light shimmer to it and the blusher is a delicate rose colour.

Prices vary between but normally start around £4.

Available in New Look, Next & our store

Number 9: Glycerine & Rose water

These two ingredients are so multi purpose it should be a crime not to own them! I pour the liquid into a spray bottle and use it as a make up setting spray. It also works great as a cleanser/toner and those with sensitive skin tend to find this soothing and moisturising. It can reduce redness and help clear problem areas. It is a total steal at just under £2.50!

Number 10: Technic Cheek Tint & High Lights

I actually came across these in my sister's make up bag some time ago! The cheek tint & highlighter are clearly Benefit Benetint & High beam dupes. They are not as highly pigmented as the Benefit products so you use more of the product building up the makeup however they are a great alternative and won't break the bank! Many other make up lines have their own versions now (Collection 2000, Revlon, 2true etc). You could get both these for approx £4 and sometimes less depending on where you pick them up!

Makeup Haul

Quick post today to show off the latest MUA & Bodyshop haul!

The MUA products were actually bought for a client! She is quite new to makeup and needed some start up products. It's always so exciting getting make up packages (even if they are not for you!)

I love the primer so much I got another one for myself :S

I also grabbed myself some Bodyshop goodies!

The Lip/cheek stain is an old favourite of mine but I came across this shimmer oil which I just HAD to try!  I will write another post soon to let you know what I think.

Lime Crime Velvetine Dupes!

Hi Y'all!

This is just a quick post to show you some Lime Crime Velvetine Dupes!

Currently Lime Crime have two shades of Velvetine Lipsticks available in Red Velvet and Suedeberry. Red Velvet is a 'rich velvety red like petals of a rose' and Suedeberry is a 'strawberry red, often associated with the 1950s icon Marilyn Monroe'. (Quoted directly from Lime crime shop page).

You can get them from various on-line make up shops for approximately £11.50 here in the UK (excl. delivery depending which site you buy them from). They cost $16.99 in the USA.The Velvetines have really taken the beauty world by storm and they are pretty much sold out the majority of the time!

Suedeberry (L) & Red Velvet (R)

Let's start with the Suedeberry dupes:
  • Revlon Strawberry Suede - product now discontinued but still available on some on-line make up stores. This shade is nearly identical. Price varies upon on-line shop choice.
  • Rimmel Kate 109 - a little less red and a little more coral but same consistency. You can get this for about £4-£6 on-line/in store.
  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam - This is a matte cream lipstick and almost identical to Lime Crime's Suedeberry and you can get these for about £5/£6 on-line.
  • Sleek Pout Pain in Lava & Pin Up (mix the two colours to achieve that suedeberry look!) These are approx £4/£5 each in superdrug or online.

...and for the Red Velvet Dupes:

  • MAC Lipmix in Crimson - this product is almost identical and costs £13 online/in store (note: quite hard to get in the UK)
  • OCC Lip Tar in NSFW - this is very similar and cost £9 online
  • Sleek Pout Paint in Pin Up - these are a great dupe and cost only £4/£5 in Superdrug or online
  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo - this is almost identical and can be bought online for about £5/£6.
  • Update! I found a new one! Beauty UK Lipstick in shade No. 6 Vampire - this is almost identical and costs £3.49 in Superdrug!

Some of these items might be difficult to get your hands on in the UK but hopefully you might even have some of these already in your kits. I think I will be grabbing myself some Sleek and NYX copies next payday!

If anyone else knows of any more please let me know in the comments below! I hope this helps!

If you're on facebook come on over and say hi on our page! :)

Mehron Celebre Pro HD Cream Foundation Review

You may have heard of the Mehron Make Up range before, most likely thanks to Gossmakeupartist or Lisa Eldridge! I decided to check some of their products out after reading the good reviews so I ordered the Mehron Celebre HD Pro Cream Foundation.

Probably the best thing about this product is that they have an incredible 40 shade range! The next best thing about it I would say is the price... just under £7!

The product itself is oil-free and fragrance free. The consistency is very creamy & non-greasy making it great for all skin types. It's also very highly pigmented. A little bit of product seems to go a long way and it applies very evenly. You can apply direct using your fingers or apply with a damp sponge for a more dewy look.

My hand before applying the foundation

After applying! It has evened out the redness and the skin tone!

If you are not sure which shade to buy you can get samples of the product via (UK supplier).  The sample will cost you just under £2.

Any colour received is never wasted in my opinion, darker shades can be used for contouring or during summer months, and lighter shades can be used as highlighter or mixed with other foundation!

Let me know if you have tried this and what you thought!

MUA Undress Your Skin Flawless Skin Primer Review

I bought the whole undressed set (and some extras!) in a recent Makeup Academy order.

I picked up the following (from left to right):

I have to admit that this whole order came from just wanting to test the primer! My local Superdrug did not have any in stock so I bought this lot on-line via the Makeup Academy website.  The order came quite quickly, I must have only waited 3 days for it.

After a couple of weeks of trying these products out, I can say I am definitely really impressed with the primer.

MUA claims the primer 'creates a radiant complexion that feels velvet soft to the touch whilst reducing the appearance imperfections in the skin such as fine lines and open pores'.  I can say that it has done all of this.

The product comes out in a clear liquid gel, and one pump is enough to cover the whole face.  It spreads out very easily and dries quite quickly leaving the skin feeling really soft and smooth.  My make up lasts between 6-9 hours and another big bonus is that I am shine free for the whole working day.  My skin also does look a lot 'healthier' or 'glowy' with the use of this primer.

You get 15mls of product for only £3 (price as at March 2013) which is such a bargain! I have got a collection of primers ranging from L'oreal's Studio Secret to Benefit That Gal to Clarins Beaute Baume and this is my favourite of the lot!

I would love to know if you have tried this product and what you thought of it.

I will post reviews of the other products soon.

Note: I can't recommend that this product will suit you of course, we all have different skin.  I have only reviewed this after having tried this on myself/on clients. Always test products before use in case of allergies.

Barry M TMLP

I saw the pictures and I had to try it!

Barry M's TMLP lipstick (I believe the TMLP stands for 'turns my lips pink') and is less that £5 from Superdrug here in the UK.

Barry M Lipstick TMLP

It's a green lipstick that turns varying shades of pink depending on the levels of alkali on your lips... my lips went a strong hot pink colour!  The lipstick is also waterproof and contains Aloe Vera.

This reminds me of those mood rings from the 90s ..but a make up version! ♥

I found the lipstick lasted ALL day! I actually tried rubbing this off and mixing with my lip balm and it was not budging easily! So, it's definitely great for a night out! In this case it works more like a stain. You'll also get some funny looks from anyone observing!

I would say you'll get any shade between these (with mine resembling the far right):

Barry M Pinks

All in all this is a fun product! If you don't like the unpredictability of the shades then perhaps this one is not for you though!

Highlighter Dupes

Most of your are probably familiar by now with high end brands dupes such as Elf's Gotta Glow highlighter and Nars Albatross highlighter, but there are always ways of using make you may even have already to get the same effect!

Nars Albratross is beautifully packaged, gives beautiful shimmer and costs £21.50

Nars Albatross

Elf's Gotta Glow is similarly packaged, has almost the same shimmer effect and only costs £3.75

This product gives a subtle light gold sheen and looks amazing on the cheek bones. It is quite powdery but it's not chalky when applied.
ELF Gotta Glow

Nars Swatch on Top and Elf swatch on lower finger

There is another even cheaper alternative though which I have been using lately! It's the MUA eyeshadow Shade 1 in Pearl for £1! This one is equally as good for a shimmery highlighted look!

How to spot Bobbi Brown Fakes!

Today we received Bobbi Brown products from a new supplier to put up in store. Unfortunately the unwrapping of the new items turned out to be such a disappointment!

The 'goods' were all fakes...and really bad ones at that! It's so depressing to know that people can and are getting away with selling cheap & harmful knock-offs to the public.

I am coming across more and more counterfeit cosmetics these days and these scammers are getting better at copying the real deals.   I have come across women who say they are not really that bothered if their make up is real or not because as long as they have a bag full of the high end brands they are happy without realising how harmful they can be.

Some aren't even aware that a counterfeit market even exists. This can be anyone, from your mother to the young girls  who absolutely must have all the MAC they can fit in their bathroom cabinets no matter what! (Girlies, I completely understand the desperation!)

So be aware - counterfeit DOES exist and these cosmetics may not have been made in a sterile environment. They can therefore contain carcinogenic ingredients that are banned from use in cosmetics which can cause allergies and potential long-term harm.

Just to reassure all, we have returned the 'goods' to the supplier and have ended all dealings with them.

Not all is lost though.. I have taken the opportunity to share the images with you to help you see the difference between the real deals and the counterfeits!

We received 3 different types of items:

  • Bobbi Brown Creamy Eyebrow Pencil
  • Bobbi Brown Gel Liner
  • Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick

Here is the Gel Liner. Things to note on this are the following:

-The name is completely wrong ('Fluidline' is a MAC product name not Bobbi's)
-The quality of the box is very poor
-No detail sticker underneath the gel liner (picture shows '01')
-Poor quality container
-Bar code is not a sticker (it is printed on box)
-Poor quality foam under the lid

Simple difference:

Here is what the real Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner looks like (spot the difference!):

Next we have the Foundation stick. Things to note are:
- Poor Quality box
-Silver Tube
-Poor Quality Print
-Sticker on the bottom of product
-Product name completely wrong

Here is what the real Bobbi Brown Foundation stick looks like (spot the difference!):

Last but not least, the Bobbi Brown Creamy Eyebrow Pencil.  In all honesty, this one was a little more tricky but the biggest obvious difference is the colour at the end of the pencil, there is none on the fake!

So.. we live and learn! I hope this has been helpful! ♥
